Edmonton Yard Work Service

A beautiful lawn can easily be ignored when paired with a poorly kept yard. Tree branches can cover walking areas, span into your neighbour's yard, even weaken or die and become a danger to people and property. Shrubs and perennials can also be pruned to produce more blooms than they otherwise would.

If you have more unique yard work like cleaning and moving rocks, removing plants, tending to gardens, or any other request, Edmonton Landscaping will do it efficiently, thoroughly, and at a good price.

A Guide to Pruning Trees

Pruning a tree allows it to look and perform its best when done properly. Even healthy trees are susceptible to dying or diseased branches, branch stubs, and branches that rub together. Allowing these things to remain a part of the tree will hinder its appearance as well as its growth. The canopy should be opened so that light and air filter through the entire tree to increase foliage and decrease the risk of disease. Suckers and water sprouts at the base of the tree steal nutrients and weaken the wood.

When pruning a limb, cut just above a bud that faces the outside of the tree. Ensure the cut is at a 45 degree angle to prevent water damage and disease.

When pruning a thick tree branch, cut away the weight from the branch with one or two
cuts, then use the final cut to allow for the best callus growth.
Start the cut approximately 1.5 feet from the trunk on the underside of the branch. Cut halfway through the branch. Next, cut on the topside of the branch 1 inch further out than the cut on the underside. Slowly cut down until the branch breaks. After the weight has been removed, look for the collar of the branch. The collar is the immediate protrusion from the trunk that usually shows slight swelling and rougher bark. Cut down on the outside of the collar at a 45 degree angle, starting as close to the collar as possible. This will promote fast growth of a healthy callus and prevent water damage.
